• Oberstadt – “uptown” – The old town center of Marburg; where shops, bars, cafes are located
• Fußgängerzone – “pedestrian zone” – Area of town where cars are not permitted; Oberstadt in Marburg
• Barfuß – “barefoot”
• Kaffee – “coffee”
• Sahne – “cream”
• Tegut – (no translation) – A grocery store chain in Marburg
• Döner Kebab – “doner kebab” – Roasted meat, combined with onions, lettuce, cabbage, tomatoes, and sauce; similar to a gyro; amazing
• Hörshaalgebäude – “lecture hall building” (loose) – main building where my classes are
• Elisabethkirche – “St. Elizabeth’s Church” – Church built in Marburg by the Teutonic knights; one of the oldest purely Gothic churches in Germany
• Stadtmitte – “town center”

• Kaufmarkt – “Shopping Market” (loose) – area in Marburg containing several shops on all 4 corners, similar to shopping centers in America

• Planetenlehrpfad – “Planet walking trail” – a full 1:1,000,000,000 scale model of the solar system, covers about 6 km of trail from start to finish
• Waldmeister – “woodruff” (?) – some flavor of ice cream I tried, had slight lime taste
• Mensa – “cafeteria”

• Mariensäule – “Mary’s Column” – tall columns in many cities and towns in Germany to honor the Virgin Mary
• Der Alter Peter – “St. Peter’s Church” – oldest Catholic church in inner Munich
• Feldherrnhalle  - “Field Marshall’s hall” – loggia built for Ludwig I in Odeonsplatz, Munich
• Theatinerkirche St. Kajetan – “Theatine Church of St. Cajetan” – old Theatine church in Odeonsplatz, Munich
• Alte Pinakothek – no real translation – art museum containing paintings from 14th-18th centuries; part of a Pinakothek museum “group” consisting also of Neue Pinakothek (houses 19th century art) and the Pinakothek der Moderne (houses 20th century and modern art)
• Hofbräuhaus – “Court-brewery” – state owned brewery in Bavaria; former royal brewery in Kingdom of Bavaria; operates the sceond largest tent at Oktoberfest; houses huge beer hall
• Hauptbahnhof (abbrev. Hbf) – “main train station”
